Funky Duck - Mid Length

The Funky Duck was designed to handle every kind of wave — from tiny beach breaks to big stormy slopes. Built for surfers who usually ride bigger boards, its length, width, and thickness provide early entry and stable lines, while the rockered nose and narrower tail let you take on steeper drops and turn harder than you'd expect!

Board description

Funky Duck

The first Funky Duck we ever built was for a surfer who liked to ride bigger boards in any kind of wave. The design brief was simple but challenging: a board that catches waves easily, with a bit of length and a wide nose, yet still turns well and holds on steeper drops. The idea came from Donny Boer, owner of The Hook Surf School in Hoek van Holland. He surfed a supermarket 8’2” mini malibu that surprisingly worked across the ever-changing Hoek conditions. Fat, slow waves on low tide and short, punchy ones on high. He asked if we could make something similar, but better.

The result is a forgiving mid-length that shreds, the length and wider nose make for early entries and stable lines. This board is for those surfers that want more control in better waves, but don't want to surf a smaller board.

The design has proven itself in everything from mellow Dutch beach breaks to overhead surf on the Portuguese west coast, making it a good travel companion.

How it rides

0,75 - 3m waves with some face, mellow to steep. Good fun as a standard thruster or twin + trailer to loosen it up.

CORK OR WOOD? WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE

cork

Gives the board more flex. It’s got a natural dampening effect that makes it feel softer and more responsive under your feet. You don’t need wax: the texture provides grip on its own! Over time you’ll see footprints forming where you stand.

Wood

Has less flex, feels more solid underfoot and lasts even longer. We usually recommend wood for boards over 7 foot. The extra stiffness works perfectly on longer shapes
