Board description

Favirut

The Favirut was born during Jurriaan’s time in Australia. The idea: create a bigger shortboard/hybrid that’s fast, versatile, and turns well something forgiving for surfers stepping down from a mal or soft top, but lively enough to keep experienced surfers stoked too.

It delivered. We surfed the Favirut all over Victoria in lots of different conditions from the famous overhead+ Bell’s Beach point waves to ankle-high beachies and it stayed fun, stable, and surprisingly responsive. It’s one of those boards that boosts your wave count and still lets you push your surfing.

Due to the 5 fin option, we experimented with different fin setups. The board worked well as a standard thruster or quad, but was also fun as a twin plus trailer, and even as a twin without trailer it was very loose, but lots of fun.

The board’s bottom contours feature a single to subtle double concave, into a vee behind the fins. This makes for a board that catches waves easily, flies down the line, comfortable at both low and high speeds, and still can be turned well. The medium rocker and the pulled in tail enable big lines and pockety turns. We find this board to be a great teacher for good surfing technique.

How it rides

Works in just about anything from 0.75–3 m. Gets going easily in waist-high surf and stays composed when there’s more size and push. A super dependable travel board that keeps the stoke high in all kinds of conditions.

Cork or wood? What's the difference

Cork

Gives the board more flex. It’s got a natural dampening effect that makes it feel softer and more responsive under your feet. You don’t need wax: the texture provides grip on its own! Over time you’ll see light footprints forming where you stand.

Wood

Has less flex, feels more solid underfoot and lasts even longer. We usually recommend wood for boards over 7 foot. The extra stiffness works perfectly on longer shapes.
